July 2014 BMM Log

I did a lot of reading this month. Probably to make up for the fact that I’m returning to school at the start of August. By then it would be a different kind of reading.
.
Books

"Three Shadows". Published by First Second Books, Three Shadows is a graphic novel by Cyril Pedrosa. I read this upon the recommendation of Sanne of booksandquills. I recommend you read this as well.

Watership Down. This was an assigned reading for college. I reread it to focus more on the details. Read it, too - it’s a classic.
Perks of Being a Wallflower. I watched the movie a couple of months back before reading the book. You know what they always say about book vs movie.
"Shadowspell" by Nora Roberts. I’m an avid Nora Roberts fan. Her fantasy/magic stories are my favorite. Admittedly, though, I didn’t connect with this one as much as the first book in the series. Hopefully, the third and last one would be better.
Art of Manliness - Manvotionals. If you need a guide on living your life, read this book. Read the introduction as well for the explanation about the use of “Man.”
A Monster Calls. When I saw this, I was in my Ben Templesmith graphics phase. The illustrations were done by Jim Kay and are just as good. I recommend you read it for its message as well: It’s okay to be human.
.
Movies.
A group of blue birds sitting on the head of a crocodile, that is submerged in a river   STDG(lowres).jpg The foreground features the superhero Kick-Ass in his green and yellow costume. Against a black background the words KICK-ASS are written in yellow block capitals. Four masked faces, against a black background, yellow diagonal lines dividing them. An older man with rough stubble on his chin, in a blue mask; a girl with purple hair wearing a purple mask; a man in a green and yellow mask; a man in a black mask. Korean-drama-full-house-poster-1.jpg
Rio 2. The music! Oh, the music. I have nearly all of the songs from the album on repeat.
Kamigami no Asobi. I think this would be great material for a gender study. Watch the male characters change into their god forms and compare it to Sailor Moon. Yeah. As for the story, I wouldn’t recommend this anime (it’s also a game, btw) if you want a cohesive, tight story. But it’s fun as a reverse harem anime.
She’s Dating the Gangster. If you read my past BMM Logs, you’ll know that I’m a fan of the pairing of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. The movie wasn’t quite what I expected, but hey, as long as I see them together, it’s fine with me.
P.S. If you’re wondering why Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta are always being partnered, ask your parents.
Kick-Ass 1 and 2. I mainly watched these because of Chloe Moretz. Will I recommend it? Sure, if you like gushing blood and somewhat out-of-this-world plotlines.
Full House (K-drama). Rain! I don’t like him that much here (I prefer him in Ninja Assassin). And in terms of the living-with-someone trope, I prefer Personal Taste starring Lee Min-ho. But it’s Rain, so I watched the entire thing.

Music
Rio 2 OST
"Entertainment" by Rise Against.
"Salute" by Little Mix.
Miss Saigon OST
This month, I discovered Spotify (then moved on to Deezer since I’m a Smart subscriber). Whichever I used, the results are the same: music at my fingertips. I found tracks I’ve been looking for for years (e.g. Miss Saigon OST), and I discovered songs which quickly became my favorites but which I never would have encountered without the app.
It’s better to have a Premium subscription (only 240 PHP per month), though I can live without one.
