Helloooo! I’m back! Last month was the first month of the school year so it was pretty hectic trying to get used to routine (more on that maybe in another post).
Also, A lot of my upcoming BMM Logs would have school readings so be warned :)
Anyhoo, last August was more on the movies side, especially animes (side note, Kawaii Manila 2 was yesterday but I didn’t get to go because #busy -_-” Oh well, there’s always next year, right?). Let’s get on with the log.
.
Books
Haikyuu Manga. The manga is still on-going but the anime’s about to finish soon. I think I’ll have a post coming up on why this anime is worth watching. Long story short, I love it, especially the manga’s training camp arc (after the Aoba Josai arc). Definitely watch it for inspiration not just in volleyball but in life and determination.
The Sheik. This was a required reading for class but, Good God, I hated it. Not to say, of course, that it shouldn’t be required reading; it’s an important canonical novel to show the growth and change of the Romance Novel genre and it serves as a stark foil for the very different romance novels now. But if you’re thinking of reading this for pleasure but aren’t too keen on the idea of subjugation of women, stay away from this book.
The Hand of the Enemy. Another required reading, one that I liked. This novel by Kerima Polotan-Tuvera is an important part of Filipino literature. Do a search on it and you’ll know why. I won’t extrapolate on its many merits, I’ll just say it’s good and worth reading.

Movies
Guardians of the Galaxy. This was fun. I wasn’t planning on watching it at first, but when it was mentioned by my professor in class as being worth watching, I did. She was right. She said they were like the Avengers but more damaged. Of course, comparisons between the Avengers and the Guardians can’t be helped but the Guardians bring something else the Avengers doesn’t have, both in character profiles and the film itself. So if you’re worried that the Guardians are just like a mangled copy of the Avengers, don’t be. Watch the movie.
Black Butler Anime and Live-Action Film. I mainly watched the LAF because of my mom. She watched it first and paid particular attention to the main character so I got curious. After watching the film, I went on to watch the anime and read the manga a little. While it wasn’t mind-blowing for me, it was a fun watch and read.
[SPOILERS AHEAD] Side note: I know some people think that Ciel and Sebastian are end game, especially in the manga, but I don’t see it that way. The second season basically ends with Sebastian being forced into Ciel’s service. There wasn’t any evidence that Sebastian was staying because he wanted to (pay particular attention to the dialogue).
As for the LAF, they were really pushing for the romantic angle as they made Ciel female (now Shiori - they changed a lot of the backstory as well. Not really a problem for me). I wouldn’t call the plot good but I think it’s worth watching if only for the fight scenes :P
Talk Back and You’re Dead. Yep, I watched this. Right now, it’s KathNiel and JaDine in the spotlight and I’m in the bandwagon for both. I watched Diary ng Panget out of curiosity and watched TBYD in the same vein. While I’m not a fangirl, I think it’s worth watching if you’re a fan of JaDine. Don’t expect a well-executed plot, though. But hey, we watch it for the kilig moments, not the plot anyway.
Sword of the Stranger. You could write a paper on this. Or you could just watch it for the awesome (and I think award-winning) fight scene. The ending is ambiguous but I think I’ll do a post on my take on that. All in all, this is a great watch, not only for the fight scenes but on its aspects of history, society, individualism, and a lot more (told ya you could write a paper on this).
Uta no Prince-sama 1000%. I mainly started this because I’ve moved on from anime Haikyuu to manga Haikyuu. So I needed a weekly anime to fangirl over. While I’m not that sold on the guys, I think this is still worth watching for the songs (and, of course, some kilig moments between the protagonist and her harem). My favorites are the main song by Hayato (My Sweetest Love?) and “Gemini Syndrome" by Shinomiya.
Side note (wow, I have a lot of side notes for this post): UtaPri is quite similar to Kamigami no Asobi (mentioned here) in its harem form, graphics, and sorta clueless protagonist. UtaPri has more meat, though, in terms of plot and development.
Music
My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark. Discovered c/o Spotify (this is not a sponsored post). It’s Fall Out Boy. ‘Nuff said.
UtaPri songs (“My Sweetest Love” by Hayato/Ichinose, “Gemini Syndrome” by Shinomiya). It’s quite hard to find the original voices (the ones above are pitched or are covers) but the originals are amazing. Squeeeaall!
Whew. There you go. It’s September now, wow, the -ber months. Soon it’ll be Christmas O_o .
